Fact of the day: Ethiopia still says time by the sun.

Ethiopia is three degrees north of the equator. Being an equatorial country they have equal day hours and night hours through out the year. So, the Ethiopians have a 12 hour clock, with one cycle of 1 to 12 from dawn to dusk and another cycle of 1 to 12 from dusk to dawn.
Most countries start the day at midnight. So 7:00 a.m. in East Africa Time, Ethiopia's time zone, is 1:00 in daylight hours in local Ethiopian time. At 7:00 p.m., East Africa Time, Ethiopians start over again, so it's 1:00 on their 12-hour clock.
As Addis Ababa booms in popularity and business, one would expect the country to adapt the international way of time but impressively Ethiopia has stuck to their original ways. No wonder they were one of the only two countries never colonized in Africa.
